Overcome Limiting Beliefs for Good

Limiting Beliefs
This post is for education and entertainment only.

Limiting beliefs are unconscious programs we run based on our state. A state is a pattern of thoughts, feelings, and sensations. These assumptions can sabotage your manifestations by inciting fear, doubt, and insecurity.

Our core values and beliefs are the driving force of how we act in the world. We start with the program of our family and social structure. Then we either choose or conform based on our interactions with others.

So, how do you overcome your blocks and manifest your intentions?

1 – Identify the Limiting Belief

Identifying unconscious beliefs by noticing your thoughts and paying attention to the things you do, say, think, and feel all the time. Repetition is the foundation for action and reinforces emotional triggers.

Mindful Mentality

Mindfulness is the practice of staying present. We daydream about past events or potential future concerns. We automatically do what we repeat the most if we’re not consciously observing our experience.

When you notice the belief, question where it came from. Sometimes the memory is only a feeling, not an actual event. Practice self-acceptance and remember that everyone has something they’re dealing with.

Feel the Current State

Practice radical acceptance of the belief. You believed this at one time, but now there’s new information. You can update your database and reframe your perspective to align with your current mindset.

Pay attention to the things you do, say, think, and feel all the time. What do they say about your current beliefs? Are they aligned with your core values. Be like a detached scientist examining your reality.

Observe Your Thoughts

Practice meditation or journaling to see what thought patterns and feelings dominate your inner world. You’re not the constantly changing sensations, you’re the witness of a universe only you know.

Your thoughts and beliefs influence your emotions, the signals from the body that something needs your attention. If you don’t heed strong emotions, they get stuck in your body until they are felt and resolved.

2 – Reprogram Old Processes

You can retrain the way you think and how you react to situations. When you realize you’ve been triggered, take five slow, deep breaths. Assess what underlying beliefs are creating an emotional reaction in you.

Resist Old Beliefs

Once you identify the belief, take a moment to accept that it’s there. It once served you to believe in it even if it doesn’t now. Then challenge it with contrasting facts and examples.

For instance, if you believe you’re stupid, think of all the times you’ve been smart. Provide evidence to build a more complete picture of the world.

Set Your Autopilot

Human beings have an autopilot feature when it comes to making decisions called the reticular activating system. Whatever you do the most you’ll naturally want to keep doing. That includes thoughts, feelings, and belief patterns.

Regulate Your State

Be mindful of your state as often as possible, and use mantras or affirmations to retrain your thoughts. Prioritize keeping your nervous system calm by using techniques like counting or deep breathing.

3 – Reinforce the New Rituals

You’ll naturally want to fall back into old behaviors as you make changes to your life. Never bully yourself into change or shame yourself for making mistakes. Just get back to the new way as soon as possible.

Practice Gratitude

Appreciate what’s going right and actively notice what makes you happy. Your beliefs will naturally adjust themselves to things like, “I’m so lucky!” or “I’m so loved!”

Align Your Activities

Incorporate your new beliefs into your environment and physical activities. For example, if you think you don’t like exercise, try many different kinds. Maybe you don’t like running but you love swimming.

Track Your Progress

If you don’t check in with yourself, you’ll forget your goals in the busy hustle of life. Set an app on your phone or keep a journal of your efforts. Reward yourself in small ways to reinforce your new habits.

Conclusion

Limiting beliefs don’t have to hold you back from being who you want to be. By recognizing and addressing them through mindfulness practices, you can change them to align with your goals. Practice calming methods to overcome resistance to change, and explore other perspectives.
